23 à 25 Les jeunes gens de Béthel.

De jeunes garçons. Même expression que 1Rois 3.7 ; ce sont des jeunes gens déjà en âge de responsabilité.

Monte : allusion non à l'ascension d'Elie, mais à la montée qui conduisait à Béthel et dont parle le commencement du verset.

Chauve. Nous ne savons par quelle raison Elisée était atteint de calvitie, car il était encore jeune, puisqu'il vécut environ soixante ans après cet événement. Mais ce défaut parait avoir été un déshonneur, comme une belle et abondante chevelure était un honneur. Béthel était le centre du culte du veau d'or et de l'hostilité contre le service et les prophètes de l'Eternel. Retenue par l'autorité d'Elie. cette opposition se déchaîne contre Elisée, qui n'avait pas encore fait ses preuves.
