Deutéronome 33.7

Le titre oppose fortement Juda à Ruben.

Ecoute... et le ramène. Ceux qui placent la composition de ce chapitre à une époque très postérieure sont embarrassés par ce passage. On a supposé que ce vœu de voir revenir Juda vers son peuple a été exprimé par un auteur appartenant au royaume des dix tribus et qu'il voulait par là inviter Juda à venir se réunir à ce royaume. Mais que signifieraient dans ce cas les premiers mots : Ecoute la voix de Juda ? Dans le sens proposé, ce serait, au contraire, la voix d'Israël rappelant à lui Juda, que Dieu devrait être prié d'écouter. Et dans toute l'Ecriture, il est question, non du retour de Juda aux dix tribus, mais, au contraire, de celui des dix tribus à Juda. Il nous paraît que l'auteur contemple Juda, le chef des tribus israélites, partant en guerre pour une expédition contre les ennemis d'Israël. La voix de Juda que Dieu est supplié d'écouter est la prière de toute la tribu demandant victoire pour son armée. Le terme de ramener se rapporte au retour de l'armée victorieuse. Les deux versets suivants conviennent parfaitement à ce sens. Juda nous apparaît dans cette strophe comme l'Israël idéal et victorieux, de même que dans Genèse 49.8-10.

  8 "Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your father's sons will bow down before you.
  
  9 Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he crouched as a lion, as a lioness. Who will rouse him up?
  
  10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the obedience of the peoples be.
  
  11 Binding his foal to the vine, his donkey's colt to the choice vine; he has washed his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.
