Tu y mettais une clôture, le matin tu faisais fleurir... Toute cette culture païenne (verset 10) a rapidement prospéré en Ephraïm, grâce aux soins empressés qu'elle y a rencontrés, surtout de la part des chefs du peuple.

La moisson t'échappe... : mais tout cela, au jour du jugement, ne sert de rien ; l'appui de l'étranger, sur lequel on avait compté, fait défaut.

Maladie : image du jugement ; voyez la même figure sous une forme plus précise au verset 4.
