Se bénir, c'est se souhaiter du bien à soi-même. Jurer, c'est se maudire soi-même (dans le cas où l'on mentirait). On ne prononcera plus de vœu ni d'imprécation qu'au nom de l'Eternel ; car Jéhova sera devenu le Dieu de toute la terre. Comparez Jérémie 4.2. Par cet hommage universel on célébrera particulièrement sa fidélité, qui se sera manifestée avec éclat comme le trait distinctif de son caractère. Aussi le nom sous lequel on l'invoquera sera-t-il : le Dieu de vérité (littéralement : le Dieu d'Amen, c'est-à-dire dont la parole est la vérité même ; 2Corinthiens 1.9 ; comparez Apocalypse 3.14). Cette fidélité sera démontrée par l'accomplissement de ses menaces, mais surtout par celui de ses promesses ; car toute affliction aura si complètement cessé qu'on ne pensera plus aux douleurs passées et que Dieu lui-même ne s'en souviendra plus (comparez Michée 7.19).
