Une fois déchargés de cette lourde responsabilité, les nouveaux arrivés se hâtent d'exécuter l'ordre du roi (7.17).

Douze taureaux : un par tribu (6.17).

Quatre-vingt seize béliers : 8 fois 12.

Soixante-dix-sept brebis. Ici ne règne pas le nombre douze, comme dans les trois autres sortes de victimes, mais le nombre sept qui est celui de l'alliance.

Sacrifices pour le péché : voir 6.17.

Le tout en holocauste. Rien ne fut consommé dans ces repas en commun qui accompagnaient les sacrifices d'actions de grâces, et que précédemment le peuple affectionnait tant. Le temps était passé des faciles réjouissances. Le sentiment du péché et le besoin d'une entière consécration à Dieu étaient au premier plan parmi les préoccupations spirituelles du nouvel Israël.
