La conjonction : afin que indique l'intention de Dieu lui-même en remettant tout jugement au Fils : c'est qu'il soit honoré de tous à l'égal du Père (comme).

Or, honorer Dieu, avec tous les sentiments de vénération et d'amour qui lui sont dus, c'est l'adorer, et cette adoration revient au Fils comme au Père. (Philippiens 2.9-11)

Le Sauveur confirme cette vérité par une déclaration négative qui la rend plus absolue encore : ne pas honorer le Fils, c'est ne pas honorer le Père qui l'a envoyé, qui se révèle en lui seul et qui n'est connu qu'en lui. (Matthieu 11.27 ; 1Jean 2.23)

Quelle révélation pour ces auditeurs de Jésus qui le haïssaient jusqu'à vouloir le faire mourir ! (verset 18 ; comparez Jean 15.23)
