Dans cette troisième prière, il a recours à un moyen suprême. Excuser à tout prix le coupable peut avoir pour effet d'accroître l'irritation du juge ; mais résistera-t-il à une confession complète de la faute, qui donne pleinement raison à sa colère elle-même ? Résistera-t-il surtout au souvenir de ses propres bienfaits ?
