Je suis votre maître, littéralement : votre Baal ; ce mot, signifiant maître, désigne ici Dieu à la fois comme propriétaire et comme époux.

Un d'une ville et deux d'une famille. Cette expression paraît singulière, puisque chez nous une ville, comprend en général plus d'individus qu'une famille ; mais chez les Hébreux la famille ou branche (mischpacha) était la principale subdivision de la tribu, et chaque tribu n'en comptait guère que trois ou quatre (voir par exemple Exode 6.14). Jérémie n'annonce pas une restauration en masse du peuple des dix-tribus ; quelques uns seulement se convertiront. Il n'y aura pas non plus de restauration politique du royaume des dix tribus, dont l'existence même avait toujours été une anomalie dans la théocratie israélite. Sion redeviendra, comme du temps de David, la capitale unique du royaume de Dieu.
