Ce verset n'appartient pas encore à l'écrit que doit rédiger Jérémie d'après l'ordre donné au verset 1 ; il sert seulement à motiver cet ordre : car voici....

Israël et Juda. Depuis le chapitre 4, le prophète ne s'était plus adressé qu'à Juda. La prophétie suivante concernera de nouveau le peuple de Dieu tout entier ; c'est ce qu'indique le nom de Jacob, employé plusieurs fois dans ce qui suit (versets 10, 18 ; 31.7,11).
