Il est des choses que Dieu veut d'une, manière absolue ; c'est par rapport à celles-là qu'il est dit de lui, Nombres 23.19, qu'il n'est pas homme pour mentir, ni fils de l'homme pour se repentir ; mais il y a des promesses et des menaces qu'il fait conditionnellement et de l'accomplissement desquelles il se désiste, si les conditions morales qu'elles supposent viennent à ne pas se réaliser. Comparez Jérémie 18.7-10 ; Jonas 3.9-10.
