C'est là le second trait de cette scène, introduit par le mot voici qui marque l'inattendu de l'apparition et la surprise des disciples.

Moïse, le représentant de la loi divine, Elie, le représentant du prophétisme, de la promesse du salut, leur apparaissent. Ils les reconnaissent aussitôt. (verset 4)

Ces hommes de Dieu de l'ancienne Alliance deviennent les témoins des réalités de la nouvelle qu'ils avaient annoncées, les témoins de l'unité vivante des deux économies du règne de Dieu.

Ils s'entretiennent avec Jésus. De quoi ? Matthieu et Marc ne le disent pas. Luc nous l'apprend. (Voir Luc 9.31, note.)

- Ils vivent donc, ils vivent en Dieu, ces hommes qui apparaissent ici dans la gloire. "Dieu n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants."
