Le ton devient plus calme, dans l'assurance qu'en effet l'Eternel juge.

Les cœurs et les reins. C'est ici la première fois qu'apparaît cette expression, que l'on retrouve Psaumes 26.2, ainsi que dans plusieurs passages, Jérémie 11.20, etc., et dans Apocalypse 2.23. Elle semble être devenue une locution usuelle, pour désigner ce qu'il y a de plus caché dans la vie intime de l'homme. Le psalmiste en appelle ici au Dieu qui ne juge pas d'après les apparences, mais qui, ainsi qu'il l'a déclaré, lui-même, regarde au cœur (1Samuel 16.7).
