Grec : Pensez une même chose les uns envers les autres.

On interprète en général ce précepte : Vivez en bonne intelligence.

C'est l'idée de Romains 15.5. où l'apôtre emploie une autre préposition. Dans notre passage il veut plutôt dire : poursuivez un même but d'amour chacun chez son prochain, soyez préoccupés des intérêts matériels et spirituels les uns des autres. Comparer le précepte de Jésus, Matthieu 7.12.

Pour penser avant tout aux intérêts d'autrui, il faut être humble ; aussi l'apôtre continue-t-il : (grec) "Ne pensez point aux choses hautes, mais laissez-vous emmener avec les humbles," c'est-à-dire consentez à frayer avec ceux qui sont de condition inférieure ; regardez-les comme vos égaux, ne vous arrêtez pas aux distinctions sociales.

Les humbles sont des hommes de situation modeste. On pourrait entendre le mot grec des choses humbles, par opposition aux choses élevées.

Mais l'image renfermée dans le verbe : laissez-nous emmener avec, rend la première interprétation plus naturelle.

- L'importance donnée aux différences de castes et l'esprit de coterie sont entretenus par l'orgueil, par la haute opinion que nous avons de nous-mêmes. Le mépris de nos frères plus humbles naît de la fausse idée que nous n'avons pas besoin d'eux, que nous pouvons nous suffire à nous-mêmes.

De là ce dernier précepte : Ne soyez point sages à vos propres yeux, ne présumez pas de vous-mêmes, rappelez-vous que vous avez besoin des plus petits de vos frères, que l'un doit compléter l'autre. (Comparer Romains 11.25,Proverbes 3.7 ; Esaïe 5.21)
