Hébreu / Grec - Texte original © Καὶ ὅταν τελέσωσιν τὴν μαρτυρίαν αὐτῶν, τὸ θηρίον τὸ ἀναβαῖνον ἐκ τῆς ἀβύσσου ποιήσει μετ’ αὐτῶν πόλεμον καὶ νικήσει αὐτοὺς καὶ ἀποκτενεῖ αὐτούς.

World English Bible When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them.

Ils seront tués quand ils auront achevé leur témoignage, c'est-à-dire à la fin des douze cent soixante jours prophétiques. (verset 3 ; comparez Daniel 7.22) C'est la bête qui monte de l'abîme qui les tuera.

Cette apparition énigmatique sera caractérisée avec plus de précision dans Apocalypse 13 et Apocalypse 17.

Dès maintenant les lecteurs de l'Apocalypse, qui connaissaient Daniel, (Daniel 7) savaient qu'il s'agissait d'une des puissances du monde hostile aux "saints," et en considérant ce qui est dit, à verset 2, des païens qui "fouleront aux pieds la sainte cité," ils pouvaient deviner quelle serait cette puissance.

      Daniel 7

      21 I saw, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
      22 until the ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High, and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

      6 I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered with great amazement.
      7 The angel said to me, "Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.
      8 The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go into destruction. Those who dwell on the earth and whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel when they see that the beast was, and is not, and shall be present.

      Apocalypse 19
