Genèse 19.14

Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, "Get up! Get out of this place, for Yahweh will destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

Fiancés de ses filles ; littéralement : ses gendres prenant ses filles. Etaient-ils déjà mariés ? Dans ce cas, ils auraient épousé d'autres filles que celles dont Lot parlait au verset 8. Mais plus probablement ils ne sont appelés gendres que par anticipation, en tant que fiancés. Car il n'est pas parlé d'autres enfants de Lot.

Il leur sembla... Habitués à voir le mal impuni, ils ne croient pas que Dieu puisse intervenir. Il en était de même au moment où Dieu envoya le déluge, et il en sera encore de même quand Christ reviendra pour juger le monde (Luc 17.26-30).

Par cette incrédulité, ils rompent le lien de solidarité qui les unissait à la famille de Lot.
