L'auteur fait allusion à Exode 24.3-8 ; mais il amplifie le récit de l'Exode.

Celui ci ne parle pas d'aspersion sur le livre même et ne mentionne pas l'emploi de l'eau, de la laine écarlate et de l'hysope, qui étaient en usage dans diverses cérémonies de Purification. (Lévitique 14.4 et suivants ; Nombres 19.4 et suivants ; Lévitique 8.10 et suivants ; comparez Exode 12.22 ; Psaumes 51.9)

Quant au tabernacle, il ne put être l'objet d'une aspersion dans la circonstance rapportée Exode 24.3-8, puisqu'il n'existait pas encore. (Comparer Exode 25,40) D'après Exode 40.9 et suivants, (comparez Lévitique 8.10) le tabernacle et les ustensiles furent seulement oints d'huile.

L'aspersion avec du sang ne figure que dans la tradition juive. (Josèphe, Antiq. III, 8, 6.)

      12 You shall take of the blood of the bull, and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger; and you shall pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.
      20 Then you shall kill the ram, and take some of its blood, and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood around on the altar.
      36 Every day you shall offer the bull of sin offering for atonement: and you shall cleanse the altar, when you make atonement for it; and you shall anoint it, to sanctify it.

      18 "He shall go out to the altar that is before Yahweh and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the bull's blood, and some of the goat's blood, and put it around on the horns of the altar.
      19 He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and make it holy from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

      21 Moreover he sprinkled the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry in the same way with the blood.
