À Ses miracles accomplis ici-bas, Christ en ajoute dans le « royaume de la Grâce » : « la bonne nouvelle est annoncée aux pauvres » ! Ceci démontre clairement la nature spirituelle du Royaume de Christ ; c’est ce qu’annonça Jean, le messager envoyé devant Jésus, pour préparer Son chemin ; l’apôtre prêchait la repentance, concrétisée par un changement de cœur et de conduite.

Nous trouvons dans ce texte le juste blâme de ceux qui ne prenaient pas en considération le ministère de Jean-Baptiste, ou de Jésus-Christ Lui-même. Ils plaisantaient sur les méthodes employées par Dieu pour purifier leur âme : cette réaction ne pouvait que mener la multitude à la ruine spirituelle ; ces hommes ne cherchaient pas sérieusement à purifier leur cœur de tout péché.

Cherchons à prouver que nous sommes des « enfants de Sagesse », en respectant les directives de la Parole de Dieu ; acceptons-en Ses mystères comme l’heureuse nouvelle du salut, nouvelle que les impies et les pharisiens prenaient en dérision, par leurs différents blasphèmes.
