Et refusèrent de marcher... Il n'y eut pas seulement indolence, mais refus positif d'obéir aux envoyés de Dieu (Juges 1.29 ; 2.2). Même au point de vue politique, la tribu d'Ephraïm eut, pendant la période des Juges, un rôle peu honorable ; elle faillit compromettre le succès de Gédéon (Juges 8.1) ; c'est de son sein que sortirent les meurtriers de la famille de ce juge (Juges 9.1-5) ; elle fit la guerre à Jephthé, après avoir refusé de lui venir en aide contre les Ammonites (Juges 12.1).
