Le fait que Paul allègue en réponse à la question de verset 9, c'est qu'Abraham fut justifié par la foi avant d'avoir reçu le sceau de la circoncision.

Il est déclaré juste Genèse 15, et ce n'est que dans Genèse 17 que la circoncision est instituée ; elle n'était donc pas la condition de sa justification.
