Grec : "Mais lorsque vint la plénitude ou l'accomplissement du temps"

Terme très important à remarquer, par lequel l'apôtre signale l'époque précise choisie par la sagesse de Dieu pour envoyer son Fils. Il ne pouvait le faire qu'après une longue préparation du peuple juif et des nations païennes.

Cette préparation eut lieu pour le premier par les révélations divines, par les promesses, par la loi, par toutes les institutions mosaïques ; elle eut lieu pour les secondes par le développement de la civilisation, par les efforts impuissants de la philosophie, par les dispensations de Dieu et les expériences des peuples, convaincus enfin qu'ils ne pouvaient parvenir par euxmêmes ni à connaître Dieu, ni à s'affranchir de la servitude du péché. A tous égards, les temps étaient accomplis quand Christ parut.
