1 à 11 Avertissements contre les erreurs du temps.

L'Esprit de Dieu, soit dans l'apôtre même, soit dans les membres des Eglises qui avaient le don de prophétie. Les erreurs que l'Esprit annonçait (voir l'introduction 4), étaient en opposition directe avec le "grand mystère de piété" dont l'apôtre vient de parler ; (1Timothée 3.16) c'est pourquoi il passe à la description de ces fausses doctrines par une particule adversative : mais...

Grec : "dans les temps postérieurs." (2Timothée 3.1) Les erreurs que l'apôtre combat n'étaient alors qu'à leurs premiers commencements ; plus tard, elle formeront tout un corps de doctrine dans les divers systèmes gnostiques ; enfin, plusieurs de ces fausses doctrines, celles par exemple que signalent les versets 1Timothée 4.3,8, seront adoptées par l'Eglise elle-même, en sorte que c'est à bon droit que nos réformateurs virent dans l'Eglise romaine l'accomplissement de ce que l'Esprit avait annoncé dès les temps apostoliques. (1Timothée 4.1)

Ces erreurs pourront revêtir d'autres formes encore dans les temps postérieurs qui ne sont pas tous accomplis ; (2Thessaloniciens 2.3-12, note) mais, sous toutes leurs formes, dans tous les âges, elles doivent être jugées d'après cette Parole divine qui les a signalées à l'avance par l'Esprit de Dieu.

Grec : "Apostasieront de la foi," s'en sépareront.

Comme la vérité vient de Dieu, le mensonge vient de la puissance des ténèbres. C'est ainsi que Paul appelle le culte des idoles, le culte des démons. (1Corinthiens 10.20,21, note.)

Le déclin de la foi qui, à cette époque, commençait déjà. (1 Timothée 4:1-5)
Plusieurs directives sont données par l’apôtre, avec des exhortations pour accomplir notre devoir, en tant que chrétien. (1 Timothée 4:6-16)

Le Saint-Esprit, à la fois dans l'Ancien comme dans le Nouveau Testament, a parlé d'une dégradation générale de la foi envers Christ, ainsi que de l'adoration de Dieu. Cette apostasie doit survenir pendant la dispensation chrétienne, dans les « derniers temps ».

Les faux docteurs lancent des interdits, en déclarant « mauvais » ce que Dieu déclare « bon » ; ils exigent des âmes divers devoirs et servitudes, cependant considérés par Dieu comme sans importance majeure !

Dans ces derniers temps nous allons trouver plusieurs tendances, en faveur d’un désintéressement des exigences de la loi divine, avec en contre partie, diverses charges relatives aux « devoirs imaginaires », qui rejettent tout ce que Dieu a permis.

En fait rien ne justifie tout usage sans modération ou impropre à ce que Dieu a créé ; rien ne sera bon pour nous, si nous ne cherchons pas, par la prière, les bénédictions que le Seigneur peut nous accorder.

      11 They have over them as king the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is "Abaddon," but in Greek, he has the name "Apollyon."
      20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, didn't repent of the works of their hands, that they wouldn't worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk.
