World English Bible When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live."

La vipère, ranimée par la chaleur du feu, s'élança sur la main de Paul et y resta suspendue par une morsure que les insulaires jugèrent aussitôt mortelle ; ils en concluent que la Justice (qui était à leurs yeux une divinité) n'a pas permis que cet homme, à peine échappé du naufrage, vécût.

Les verbes sont au passé, pour marquer que sa mort était certaine a leurs yeux. Ils en concluent aussi que ce malheureux devait être un criminel, un meurtrier.
