Le sixième commandement
Le bien le plus précieux pour l'homme, celui de la possession duquel dépend la jouissance de tous les autres, c'est la vie. Les psalmistes l'appellent quelquefois : mon unique. Le meurtre était déjà condamné dans le récit d'Abel et de Caïn, et dans la révélation de Dieu à Noé Genèse 9.6. Eteindre une lumière que Dieu a allumée, c'est un crime contre Dieu lui-même. Il n'est parlé ici que du meurtre accompli avec intention. Voir ce qui concerne le meurtre par accident Nombres 35.22 et suivants.
